Gen Z’s return to analog and communal experiences

A soft counter-current is forming: Gen Z is showing up at movie theaters, subculture conventions, live music, and IRL communities. Practitioners are naming this as a rejection of “empty escape” in favor of “mutual recognition” — but the evidence remains partly practitioner-narrated rather than independently observed.

There is real appetite for brand activations that create communal, embodied experiences — but the audience is trained to sniff out corporate imitation, so the execution has to be genuinely participatory rather than a photo op.
